Review: Kanebo Sensai Silk Soothing Cream

As you may or may not know, I'm a loyal fan of Kanebo and have been for a couple of years now and will always be. I completely trust Kanebo because of their high-quality products and the Sensai Silk Soothing Cream is no exception.

The website describes the Soothing Cream as an... 'Exceedingly gentle formulation with a light, airy texture. Provides speedy relief for almost all adverse skin reactions and irritations.'

Do I agree? Totally. I purchased this after using up all of the samples I was given a while ago when I was in Harrods and I have to say that I absolutely LOVE this cream. It definitely lives up to what it is claimed to do.

Consistency: The Soothing Cream has a lovely light consistency which is quite unexpected from a creamy moisturizer. It's moisturizing enough without being heavy or greasy-looking on my skin which is fabulous because creamy moisturizers usually have an opposite affect.

Use: I have extremely dry skin in the Winter so every evening I use this religiously with Kanebo Sensai Silk Softening Lotion (Moist) underneath and once I have applied the Soothing Cream, I apply RMK Recovery Gel for an intensive night treatment - Read my review for the RMK Recovery Gel here. Saying that, I do find the Soothing Cream fantastic on its own and I sometimes use it in the morning when I feel my skin needs an extra boost of moisture.

Justifying the claims: I do agree with the claim that the Soothing Cream provides a 'speedy relief for almost all adverse skin reactions and irritations' because I know if I use a harsh cleanser on my skin, for example Kanebo Sensai Silky Purifying Mud Soap (Wash and Mask), my skin becomes extremely dry, red and sore. Therefore moisturizing with Kanebo Sensai Silk Softening Lotion (Moist) and Emulsion (Moist) isn't enough for me and it stings slightly too. The Soothing Cream doesn't sting my skin but is very gentle and moisturizing. Don't get me wrong though, I really like Kanebo Sensai Silk Emulsion (Moist) but only for Summer when my skin type is combination.

For reference: One thing I thought I would mention is the fact that ever since I have been using Kanebo products (since I was 12-13 years old), my skin has remained soft and supple... Almost as soft as a baby's bum! I honestly think this is due to the exclusive silk ingredient produced by Koishimaru silkworms.

Scent: I find there is a slight scent with the Soothing Cream, it's very pleasant and fades soon after application. I can't really pinpoint the scent but it's floral-like with a bit of something else...

Packaging: The Soothing Cream comes in a cream-coloured glass jar with a screw lid. Included is a plastic spatula to get the product out. The spatula is great because it means I can control how much product I need to use and it's also hygienic because I can wash the spatula. The jar allows me to use ALL of the product inside, whereas a pump might not be able to get all of the product out, this is a huge bonus and I do love the packaging. However, the packaging isn't travel-friendly at all, it is quite heavy and it may break if it is dropped on a hard surface, which would be a shame because it is expensive.

Price and availability: The Soothing Cream is exclusively sold by Harrods in the UK - £60 for 40ml. Whilst that does appear to be expensive, I can assure you that Kanebo moisturizers do last a very long time, usually they will last over a year and a couple of months for me because only a little bit of product is required for every application. Also, you can see from the photo above, the product is filled to the very top of the jar, which is obviously a good thing because you know you are not getting ripped off!

Recommendation and re-purchase: I would definitely recommend this product if you have sensitive and (extremely) dry skin. It is such a lovely cream and very gentle. I would also, without a doubt, re-purchase the Soothing Cream. To me, it's holy grail status.

Excellent review! I certainly love how all the SENSAI products sound, not just this cream. Always a good thing with silk, eh?

OH my, why didn't I mention the silk in here? I might have to do a bit of editing now! Haha, I totally forgot! I might mention your post about the silk if you don't mind! I thought it was a brilliant post and you should definitely do more informative posts like that =D. XX

Oops, sorry for such a late reply! Of course I don't mind. Linking your post together with mine there could help to put things into perspective about silk. :)
